As 2024 winds down, Huawei still has some surprises in store. The company has announced an event in Dubai, set for December 12, where it plans to unveil a new foldable device.

The announcement came via Huawei Mobile’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. The post teased: “Unfold the classic as a new era of flagship foldable excellence begins. Dubai. 12 December 2024.”
While Huawei hasn’t explicitly named the device to be showcased, speculation points to two possible candidates. The first is the tri-fold Mate XT, which debuted a few months ago, and the second is the Mate X6, a folio-style foldable unveiled in China last week. If true, this event could mark the global launch of these devices, which have so far only been available for purchase in China.

In addition to foldable phones, Huawei might also have other hardware announcements lined up. Rumours suggest we could see a new tablet, possibly the 2025 MatePad 13.2″, along with the FreeBuds Pro 4 wireless earbuds.
As for the Mate 70 series, it’s unclear if it will make an appearance at the event. The Mate 60 series and its proprietary silicon drew significant attention—and some controversy—due to ongoing US sanctions. This uncertainty leaves the spotlight firmly on Huawei’s foldable lineup.
For those in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region eager to explore Huawei’s latest innovations, this event offers an opportunity to see what the tech giant has to offer. Mark your calendars for next Thursday to witness the next chapter in Huawei’s foldable journey.
