The Nike Air Max 1000 is 3D-printed

Nike has once again pushed the boundaries of footwear innovation with the Air Max 1000, its latest creation that’s almost entirely 3D-printed. Unveiled at ComplexCon, this futuristic sneaker reimagines the iconic Air Max 1 design, blending cutting-edge technology with timeless style.

The Air Max 1000 boasts a unique, contoured design that would be nearly impossible to achieve using traditional manufacturing methods. By leveraging 3D printing, Nike has been able to create a single, flexible material with varying densities and textures, resulting in a supportive outsole and a comfortable, laceless upper.

While the Air Max 1000’s air cushion itself is not 3D-printed, the rest of the shoe is crafted entirely through this innovative process. This allows for greater precision and customization, opening up new possibilities for future footwear designs.

While the Air Max 1000 was initially showcased in a striking red colourway, additional colour options, including orange, white, blue, and black, were later revealed. However, the wider availability of the shoe remains limited, with only a small number of pairs distributed at ComplexCon and a limited pre-order opportunity for 1,000 lucky attendees.

Nike’s foray into 3D-printed footwear isn’t entirely new. The company previously introduced the VaporFly Elite Flyprint, featuring a 3D-printed textile upper. Other brands, such as Adidas, have also embraced 3D printing for their footwear, demonstrating the growing potential of this technology to revolutionize the industry.
