MultiChoice is rolling out new features on its DStv Stream platform this month, including Cloud PVR Recording and enhanced “Watch from Start” functionality. With Cloud PVR Recording, viewers can record live shows to re-watch within 30 days, providing greater flexibility and control over their viewing schedule. The feature is set to launch for web users on Tuesday, 12 November 2024, with updates for iOS, Android, and other platforms following gradually.

The upgraded Watch from Start feature enables viewers to rewind up to 24 hours on select channels, such as SuperSport, M-Net, Mzansi Magic, and kykNet. This allows users to catch up on key live events they may have missed. “The 24-hour Watch from Start functionality allows customers to go back in time by up to 24 hours, so they never miss key live events, whether it’s a sports match or a fan-favourite show,” said MultiChoice.
Recorded programming will be accessible in the “My Stuff” section for up to 30 days. MultiChoice assured customers that updates would occur automatically where possible, minimizing disruptions.
The new features follow an earlier 2024 update to the DStv Stream interface, which introduced personalized recommendations and auto-play trailers. “With Watch from Start and Cloud PVR, we’re giving viewers more control over their experience,” stated MultiChoice South Africa CEO Marc Jury. He added that these additions offer the flexibility of streaming within the live TV environment.
Since DStv Stream’s rebrand in July 2023, active users have surged by 139%, with 90% of these users being new. The Extra Stream feature, launched in August 2023, allows subscribers to add mobile-only streams, growing its user base by 13% since launch. This feature lets customers watch DStv Stream on their TV while another user streams on a mobile device, enhancing flexibility without interrupting the main feed.
