Another year brings another flagship Qualcomm mobile chip, but the Snapdragon 8 Elite is reportedly a step up from its predecessors. Unlike previous iterations, it features the Oryon CPU, which debuted in last year’s X Elite chips for laptops, according to a leaked slide from Videocardz. Additionally, it uses a cutting-edge 3nm process node, replacing the 4nm node used in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

This upgrade allows the Snapdragon 8 Elite to offer a 45% increase in both single and multi-core performance while consuming 27% less power than its predecessor.
While we await further details from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit, the leaked slide offers plenty of insight. As anticipated, Qualcomm is focusing heavily on generative AI, with the 8 Elite boasting a 45% faster neural processing unit (NPU). Gaming performance will also see a significant boost, with a 40% improvement over previous models. According to Videocardz, the Snapdragon 8 Elite will reach a maximum speed of 4.32 GHz across two cores, with six smaller cores hitting speeds of up to 3.53 GHz.
Considering how impressed we were with the Snapdragon X Elite’s performance in devices like the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop Copilot+ PCs, it’s reasonable to expect the Oryon CPU to perform well in smartphones. Early benchmarks reported by Smartprix and Onleaks show the Snapdragon 8 Elite scoring an impressive 3,025,991 on Antutu, compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s best score of around 2.1 million, highlighting the substantial performance leap.
