OpenAI is currently testing a ChatGPT app for Windows, though it is exclusively available to paid users at this time. An early version of the app can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store.

Similar to the Mac version, the Windows ChatGPT app allows users to interact with the AI-powered chatbot in a dedicated window, which can remain open alongside other applications. The app can be quickly accessed using the Alt + Space keyboard shortcut.

Users can also upload files and photos to ChatGPT, and the app includes access to a preview of OpenAI’s o1 model, which offers enhanced “reasoning” capabilities. However, some features, like advanced voice mode, are not yet available.

Shortly after the Mac app’s launch in June, a developer discovered a security vulnerability that left conversations stored in plain text. OpenAI has since addressed this issue by encrypting locally stored data.

Currently, only ChatGPT Plus, Enterprise, Team, and Edu subscribers have access to the app on Windows, but OpenAI plans to make it available to all users later this year.
