Mulaney, a former Saturday Night Live writer, will host the new show, which is set to premiere in early 2025. The comedian will also serve as showrunner and executive producer through his company, Multiple Camera Productions.
Netflix’s chief content officer, Bela Bajaria, expressed excitement about the project, highlighting Mulaney’s established relationship with the platform and his successful comedy specials. While talk shows often face challenges in maintaining long-term viewership, Netflix believes that Mulaney’s live format will set the new series apart.
The streaming service has been increasing its focus on live content, including sporting events, an eating contest, and upcoming live wrestling matches. A dedicated section for live content could make it easier for subscribers to find these programs.
Mulaney joins a growing list of former Saturday Night Live alumni who have found success in the talk show space on broadcast television. If the new Netflix series can capture the same audience and critical acclaim as its predecessors, it could solidify Netflix’s position in the competitive world of talk shows.
