For the first time, the new Apple range of devices are launching in South Africa on the same day as in North America and Europe. We were able to get our hands on all the latest Apple devices in a special launch event, thanks to our friends at iStore. We had several hours to dive deep into what Apple has to offer this year, so let’s take a look at the new Apple Watch range.

The Apple Watch turns 10 this year, but the Series 10 isn’t a radical departure from its predecessors. At first glance, it resembles earlier models, though Apple has made some notable updates. The overall design is slimmer, and the screen sizes have been increased to 42mm and 46mm, compared to 41mm and 45mm on the Series 9. Despite the slightly larger display, both sizes feel comfortable and lightweight on the wrist, avoiding any sense of bulkiness. Apple also claims the new display is 40% brighter, and the always-on mode now refreshes every second, a significant upgrade from the once-per-minute refresh on older models.
One of the most noticeable improvements is the larger, thinner display, which becomes apparent when you put it on. Even more striking is the difference in weight, especially with the titanium models, which feel much lighter. The new rose gold titanium option adds a sleek touch to the lineup.
In terms of colour options, the all-black Ultra 2 stands out as a real head-turner, and the jet black Series 10 is equally impressive — it’s the smartwatch Batman would likely choose. However, the black Milanese Loop clasp on the Ultra 2 can be a bit tricky to fasten.
Apple is also rolling out a new sleep apnoea feature, though it won’t be available at launch. It will arrive via an over-the-air update, offering users insights into their breathing patterns during sleep. Instead of using SpO2 sensors like most sleep apnoea trackers, this feature relies on the accelerometer to detect whether your breathing disturbances are “elevated” or “not elevated.”
While these changes don’t completely reinvent the Apple Watch, the Series 10 and Watch Ultra 2 offers meaningful enhancements in display, design, and future health tracking capabilities.
