The key difference between the Pro and Pro XL models lies in the screen size. The Pixel 9 Pro XL features a larger 6.8-inch display, while the Pixel 9 Pro has a 6.3-inch screen. The XL model also supports slightly faster charging, but beyond that, these two devices are virtually identical. The choice between them largely depends on whether you prefer the expansive screen real estate of the XL or the more manageable size of the Pro. Personally, I find large screens appealing, even if they can be a bit unwieldy.

In terms of specifications, both the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL are poised to compete directly with Samsung’s latest high-end devices. They are powered by Google’s new Tensor G4 processor and come equipped with an impressive 16GB of RAM, designed to handle the extensive AI functionalities embedded throughout the phone. These AI capabilities, driven by Google’s Gemini, are integrated into various features, including chats, photos, and note-taking. To further enhance the AI experience, Google is offering a one-year subscription to the Google One AI Premium Plan, providing unlimited access to all Gemini features.

The camera system is another major highlight of these phones. Google has a reputation for delivering top-notch cameras, and the Pixel 9 Pro series continues this tradition. The front camera has been upgraded to a 42 MP dual-pixel autofocus system, while the triple rear camera setup includes a 50 MP main sensor, a 48 MP ultrawide sensor, and a 48 MP telephoto sensor.

Camera software has also been enhanced to leverage the hardware improvements. Video footage can now be automatically upscaled to 8K, with Super Res Zoom, Macro Focus, and Night Sight capabilities. Users will also enjoy the full suite of AI-powered tools like Magic Eraser and Magic Editor.

The displays on these devices are equally impressive. The Pixel 9 Pro features a 6.3-inch Super Actua OLED screen with a 20:9 aspect ratio, 495 PPI, a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz, and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. The Pixel 9 Pro XL offers the same display specs but in a larger 6.8-inch format. Both screens are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, ensuring durability.

Available in black, white, hazel, and rose quartz, the Pixel 9 Pro starts at $1,000, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL begins at $1,100. Pre-orders are open now, with general availability starting on August 22. Both models come with 16GB of RAM, with storage options ranging from 128GB to 1TB.
