Apple Vision Pro adds capability for Personas to work in more apps

Apple Vision Pro, Apple’s innovative ‘spatial computer,’ recently received an update introducing a new feature called ‘spatial Persona,’ enhancing the FaceTime experience beyond mere floating avatars. This feature allows users to engage with others during calls, creating a sense of shared physical presence.

Utilising life-like virtual avatars, users can interact by moving and making eye contact, fostering a feeling of being in the same room. Additionally, Vision Pro users can utilize SharePlay for collaborative activities like watching movies, playing games, or working together. Spatial Persona also integrates spatial audio, facilitating easy tracking of participants’ positions in the call.

Presently, spatial Personas are exclusive to FaceTime calls, but Apple aims to extend compatibility to games and apps, further immersing users in shared virtual spaces. Accessible on visionOS 1.1 or later, the feature requires at least one other Vision Pro user on the call, accommodating up to five participants simultaneously.

To activate spatial Persona, initiate a FaceTime call with another Vision Pro user and select the spatial Persona option from the controls in the Control Centre. The positioning of Personas adjusts dynamically based on the activity; for instance, during movie watching, participants appear beside each other, while during gaming, they sit facing each other. Nonetheless, users retain the freedom to move around within the virtual environment.
