The digital PS5 Slim, priced at R11,999, is expected to hit shelves in the first week of April 2024, featuring the same recommended retail price (RRP) as the standard PS5 Digital console. Notably, the new digital Slim model offers the convenience of adding a BluRay disc drive later via a dedicated slot, unlike its predecessor.

However, details regarding the South African pricing and availability of this additional drive are yet to be finalized.

Meanwhile, the PS5 Slim equipped with a disc drive (PS5 standard) will be available for R13,999, mirroring the current RRP for the standard PS5 console. However, it will go on sale three weeks after the digital version.

Gamefinity emphasized that the launch dates are contingent on the smooth progression of all processes at South African port services.

Unveiled by Sony in October 2023, the Slim consoles boast similar internal hardware to their predecessors, ensuring comparable performance. Notably, they are 30% smaller, with the standard PS5 weighing 18% less and the Digital Edition 24% less.

Externally, the most significant change lies in the splitting of the two side panels into four separate pieces. A horizontal gap divides the panels into glossy and matte sections, offering a sleek aesthetic. Sony also provides the option to purchase separate all-matte black panels or choose from additional colours like Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, and Sterling Silver.

The inclusion of four panels allows for more diverse colour combinations, offering users greater customization options. However, one drawback is the absence of an adjustable stand for both vertical and horizontal orientations.
