Google’s upcoming I/O developer conference is scheduled to commence two months from now on May 14th. Similar to last year, the I/O 2024 keynote will be “broadcast in front of a limited live audience” while being accessible for virtual viewing by anyone.

This year’s I/O is expected to place a significant emphasis on AI, particularly in light of Google’s recent unveiling of its flagship AI model, Gemini, alongside its smaller counterpart, Gemma.
The controversy surrounding Gemini’s image generation capabilities, which Google CEO Sundar Pichai deemed “completely unacceptable,” will likely be addressed. Additionally, Google will need to clarify discrepancies stemming from its Bard launch last year. While the company has made significant strides in AI development, it must also articulate how its technology will outperform competitors such as Microsoft, OpenAI, Anthropic, and others.
Attendees can anticipate announcements regarding new features coming to Android 15 and updates across Google’s suite of services including Gmail, Google Photos, and more. Furthermore, speculation suggests the potential unveiling of the Pixel 8A smartphone at I/O. Given that Google introduced the midrange 7A during last year’s event, it’s reasonable to expect its successor to debut soon, possibly incorporating some of the Pixel 8’s AI capabilities at a more affordable price point.
