The R2, as expected, presents a stylish compact SUV design, with all variants offering a minimum range of 300 miles per charge. This achievement is made possible by a redesigned 4695 cell and an expanded battery pack integrated into the vehicle’s bottom floor. Rivian owners will enjoy versatile recharging options, including compatibility with Tesla Superchargers and access to the Rivian Adventure Network, a proprietary charging infrastructure slated to expand to 600 locations within a few years.
Performance-wise, the R2 offers three motor configurations: a standard single-motor rear-wheel drive, a dual-motor all-wheel drive, and a powerful tri-motor layout. The tri-motor variant boasts impressive acceleration, achieving zero to 60 mph in three seconds. The vehicle’s infotainment system is complemented by dual gloveboxes, steering wheel-mounted scroll wheels with haptic feedback, and advanced self-driving capabilities facilitated by 11 cameras and five radars.
Starting at $45,000 for the base model, the R2 maintains Rivian’s commitment to affordability while providing ample interior space for five occupants and versatile cargo storage options, including a spacious front trunk or “frunk.” Preorders for the R2 are currently available, with deliveries scheduled to commence in 2026.
The R3, characterized by a more compact design compared to the R2, offers similar model variants but with limited range details at present. It shares some design elements with its sibling, including an open-air concept with a rear lift and adjustable glass window for storage. Sustainability is prioritized in its interior, featuring eco-friendly materials and functional design elements.
In contrast, the R3X stands out as a high-performance vehicle with exclusive tri-motor configuration, distinct rugged aesthetics, and enhanced ground clearance. Rivian has yet to disclose pricing or availability details for the R3 and R3X models but has hinted at forthcoming accessories such as roof tents, bike racks, and additional storage options for its entire vehicle lineup.
