Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy Ring at the Mobile World Conference (MWC 2024) and provided additional details about the device. Centred around health and wellness, the Galaxy Ring will be available in three colours: platinum silver, gold, and ceramic black, with sales slated to begin later this year.

At its initial reveal during Unpacked last month, Samsung offered scant details about the Galaxy Ring, merely teasing it as a wellness-focused wearable designed to compete with Oura, featuring a suite of undisclosed sensors.

While journalists were not permitted to photograph the device, supplementary images from Samsung depict a substantial, concave ring similar in size to the Oura, according to provided imagery. Despite its bulkier appearance, some observers noted that it is lighter than anticipated and will be offered in sizes 5 to 13, denoted as S through XL inside the band. Battery size, ranging from 14.5mAh to 21.5mAh, will vary depending on the size, though battery life remains unspecified. For comparison, the Oura can last up to seven days between charges.

Functionality-wise, the Galaxy Ring will track sleep patterns based on heart rate, movement, and breathing, offering personalized advice based on the collected data. Leveraging insights from partner Natural Cycles, known for fertility tracking on the Galaxy Watch, the Galaxy Ring will integrate similar features.

Additionally, a new feature called My Vitality Score will gauge alertness levels, providing users with feedback via “Booster Cards” containing science-based tips derived from sleep and other gathered data.

Part of the Samsung Health ecosystem, the Galaxy Ring will seamlessly integrate with the Galaxy Watch, allowing users to concurrently track their health with both devices, ensuring higher quality data. Moreover, its ring form factor offers the advantage of enhanced comfort during sleep.

As more information becomes available in the coming months, including specifics on the sensor suite, pricing, and release date, it’s worth noting that initially, the Galaxy Ring will be compatible only with Samsung Galaxy phones, with plans to extend compatibility to other Android devices in the future, while iOS compatibility remains under consideration.
