Samsung expands its Odyssey OLED gaming display range

Samsung has unveiled a trio of new gaming monitors in anticipation of CES 2024. The lineup comprises the 49-inch curved ultra-wide Odyssey OLED G9 (G95SD), the 32-inch flat Odyssey OLED G8 (G80SD), and the 27-inch flat Odyssey OLED G6 (G60SD). Of particular interest on paper is the Odyssey OLED G6, featuring an impressive 360Hz refresh rate, coupled with a 1440p resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. Samsung Display initiated mass production of these high-speed OLED panels last month, and other manufacturers like Dell and MSI are also incorporating them into their upcoming monitors.

The Odyssey OLED G8, a flat 32-inch 4K monitor with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a 240Hz refresh rate, follows in the lineup. The Odyssey OLED G9, a 49-inch curved monitor with a 240Hz refresh rate, a 32:9 aspect ratio, and a resolution of 5,120 x 1,440, completes the trio. Notably absent is a 32-inch 1440p option, previously available with the Odyssey G7.

Both high-end monitors will feature Samsung’s smart functionalities, including a built-in Smart TV platform for accessing video streaming services, a Gaming Hub offering cloud gaming services, and a SmartThings hub for IoT device control. The inclusion of “Multi Control” allows seamless text and image transfer between compatible Samsung laptops, tablets, and phones.

All three monitors boast a VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification, ensuring a peak brightness of at least 400 nits, and support AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. Each monitor is equipped with two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4, and built-in USB hubs. While exact pricing and release dates remain unconfirmed, these monitors are expected to be available for purchase later this year, aligning with Samsung’s past monitor release schedules.
