LG unveils the world’s fastest OLED gaming display

LG Display, a prominent manufacturer of displays supplying other companies, has unveiled a cutting-edge OLED display poised to feature in top-tier gaming monitors. Boasting a 27-inch size and a 1440p resolution, this panel sets a new standard with a rapid 0.03ms response time and an impressive 480Hz refresh rate — marking it as the fastest among OLED displays to date.

Outperforming its predecessor, the 32-inch OLED “Dual-Hz” gaming monitor (32GS95UE) announced in December, LG’s latest screen maintains a remarkable 480Hz refresh rate without requiring a downgrade to 1080p resolution for optimal speed.

This development positions LG Display in direct competition with Samsung’s display arm, which recently introduced a panel featuring a slightly lower 360Hz refresh rate coupled with a 1440p resolution. Samsung has swiftly adopted this panel for its new 27-inch Odyssey OLED G6 gaming monitor, and there are indications that MSI and Dell may incorporate it into their upcoming monitors.

LG Display incorporates its proprietary “META Technology” into the panel, promising enhanced brightness and broader viewing angles. The company asserts that the display emits the “lowest level of blue light in the industry.” While it remains early to predict the adoption of LG Display’s new panel by gaming companies, the manufacturer plans to launch the 27-inch OLED 480Hz panel in the first half of this year. A comprehensive showcase of LG Display’s OLED gaming displays, ranging from 27 to 45 inches, is scheduled for CES 2024.

The emergence of OLED panels prioritizing high refresh rates from major display manufacturers indicates a forthcoming surge in gaming monitors employing this advanced technology.
