Xiaomi 14 Pro launched, first to use Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

Xiaomi has introduced its new flagship phones, the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro, featuring the recently unveiled Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. While the initial release is set for China, a global launch, excluding the US, is anticipated in the near future. These devices provide a glimpse of what’s in store for 2024, with their AI-driven features and a fresh Android skin named HyperOS.

The Xiaomi 14 boasts a 6.3-inch display, while the 14 Pro offers a larger 6.7-inch screen. Both screens claim a peak brightness of 3,000 nits and feature LTPO displays with adaptive refresh rates ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz. The Xiaomi 14 showcases a flat display with impressively narrow 1.61mm bezels on three sides. Its bottom chin features a tiny 1.71mm bezel.

In contrast, the 14 Pro combines a flat display with bezels that subtly curve around the edges and corners of the panel. The overall design is more flat and less curvaceous compared to its predecessor, the 13 Pro.

The Xiaomi 14 Pro incorporates a variable aperture main camera lens, offering an impressive 1,024 stops between its f/1.4 maximum and f/4.0 minimum apertures. This surpasses the 13 Ultra, which had only two stops. While such precision in a lens of this size might be excessive for most users, it adds a unique feature to the phone. Both the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro sport Leica-branded 50-megapixel main cameras, a 3x or 75mm equivalent telephoto camera, and a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens.

These devices run on HyperOS, a novel system developed by Xiaomi based on Android. HyperOS is designed to function across various devices, spanning mobile, computing, automotive, and home applications. It fosters seamless integration among Xiaomi’s ecosystem, enabling users to leverage their phone’s camera with their computer or share mobile data between devices. Cross-device compatibility has been a significant theme at this year’s Snapdragon Summit, emphasizing the role of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset in enabling such connectivity.
