Elgato has launched a teleprompter made for streaming

The Elgato Prompter is essentially a compact teleprompter with a scrolling display, side hoods to minimize unwanted ambient lighting, and straightforward connectors that can attach to an external camera, built-in webcam, or practically any other compatible device.

What sets it apart from other prompters on the market is that it doesn’t require a separate tablet or phone. It features a built-in screen and relies on Elgato’s proprietary Camera Hub software. Once activated, the device not only displays video scripts but also mirrors any window or application with a simple drag-and-drop function. This allows users to view both the script and live feeds from chat participants simultaneously, all while maintaining direct eye contact with the camera. It offers a wealth of social cues in a single, integrated solution.

Aside from live chat feeds, users can also drag and drop other content onto the Prompter. For example, Elgato suggests placing a window featuring “the big match” to discreetly catch glimpses during lengthy work meetings. However, they don’t explicitly recommend such a clear act of truancy.

Being an Elgato product, the Prompter seamlessly integrates with the Stream Deck, a feature-rich device. There’s a dedicated plugin that provides control and adjustment options at your fingertips, making it particularly useful for livestreamers and YouTubers in search of that ideal take. Elgato has designed this device to be the “ultimate all-in-one solution for content creators.”

Owned by prominent peripheral manufacturer Corsair, Elgato claims that the Prompter supports a wider range of webcams, cameras, and smartphones compared to similar devices in the market. This means you likely won’t need to invest in additional hardware to utilize its features. If you have any concerns, there’s a list of supported cameras and devices available.

The setup is straightforward, with included attachment clips, a stand, interchangeable backplates, and a single USB connection for both powering the device and transferring data. The Elgato Prompter is available for purchase at $280, providing an all-in-one solution for content creators and livestreamers.
