In 1982, Warnock embarked on a transformative journey by establishing the San Jose-based company, Adobe, alongside Charles Geschke. He played a pivotal role as the company’s CEO until 2000 and continued to contribute as the Chief Technical Officer until his retirement in 2001. Warnock’s leadership extended to his role as Chairman of the Board for nearly three decades until 2017, a position he shared with Geschke for a significant portion of that time.

His commitment to Adobe persisted until his passing, as he remained an active member of the company’s board of directors. In 2021, Geschke, his esteemed collaborator, passed away at the age of 81.

Warnock’s and Geschke’s partnership was forged during their time as colleagues at Xerox Holdings Corp. Their pioneering creation, PostScript, played a pivotal role in igniting the desktop publishing revolution that transformed the tech landscape.

Shantanu Narayen, Adobe’s Chief Executive Officer, paid tribute to Warnock, expressing how their interactions over a quarter-century had been a cornerstone of his career. Narayen highlighted Warnock’s influence as a role model, mentor, and cherished friend.

Before co-founding Adobe, Warnock made significant contributions as a principal scientist at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center. His professional journey encompassed roles at Evans & Sutherland Computer, Computer Sciences Corp., IBM, and the University of Utah. His academic pursuits yielded impressive qualifications, including a doctorate in electrical engineering, a master’s in mathematics, and a bachelor’s in mathematics and philosophy, all earned from the University of Utah.

Survived by his wife, Marva, and three children, John Warnock’s legacy radiates through the transformative impact he left on technology, innovation, and the creative world.
