Marc Etkind, NASA’s associate administrator of communications, expressed the agency’s excitement about the new platform, stating, “We’re putting space on demand and at your fingertips with NASA’s new streaming platform. Transforming our digital presence will help us better tell the stories of how NASA explores the unknown in air and space, inspires through discovery, and innovates for the benefit of humanity.”
Available through the NASA app on iOS and Android mobile and tablet devices, as well as streaming media players like Roku, Apple TV, and Fire TV, NASA+ will bring space enthusiasts closer to the agency’s captivating content. Additionally, the platform will be accessible on the web through NASA’s newly designed beta website. This revamped web experience will host information on the agency’s missions, research, climate data, and Artemis updates, offering users a topic-driven journey with enhanced search capabilities and integrated navigation.
At present, NASA uses NASA TV for its video content and launch streams, but the introduction of its dedicated streaming service will provide viewers with a more focused and immersive experience. The move is part of NASA’s efforts to modernize and streamline its digital presence, making its information more accessible, discoverable, and secure. CIO Jeff Seaton emphasized that this is only the beginning of enhancing public engagement with the agency’s online content.
While specific details about the NASA+ interface are yet to be revealed, the agency’s focus on modernization suggests that users can anticipate a user-friendly interface reminiscent of other popular streaming services. With NASA+ on the horizon, space enthusiasts and the curious alike will have a new platform to immerse themselves in the wonders of space exploration and scientific discovery.
