While specific information about the tablets was not disclosed, Samsung aims to drive widespread adoption of foldable phones and solidify its position as the category creator. The event’s location is noteworthy as it marks a departure from previous years when Samsung held launch events in other countries like the United States, the U.K., and Spain. However, with a remarkable 13.6% foldable phone adoption rate in Korea in 2022, Samsung recognizes the significance of hosting Unpacked in Seoul.

Tim Roh, the president and head of Samsung’s Mobile eXperience (MX) Business, emphasized the importance of Seoul as an emerging epicentre of innovation and culture, as well as its connection to the foldable category. This move to hold the event in Korea may help boost Samsung’s performance for the quarter, considering the recent drop in profit due to weak semiconductor demand.

The Galaxy Unpacked event will occur slightly earlier than in previous years, which typically took place in August. The shift to July aligns with speculations that Samsung was considering an earlier date to improve its quarterly figures. Despite the challenges faced in the semiconductor market, the company has experienced relatively positive sales in its phone division.

While specific details about the new tablets, presumed to be the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, were not disclosed, Samsung’s decision to focus on foldable devices indicates its commitment to pushing the boundaries of smartphone technology. The unveiling of these enhanced devices aims to capture the attention of consumers and further establish Samsung as a pioneer in the foldable phone market.

As the anticipation builds for the Galaxy Unpacked event, tech enthusiasts and Samsung fans alike eagerly await the unveiling of the new tablets and the innovative features they are expected to bring. With the event taking place in Samsung’s home country and the company’s dedication to advancing the foldable phone category, it promises to be an exciting and pivotal moment for the future of smartphone technology.

As for what we expect from the foldables, Samsung has been rumoured to adopt a new waterdrop hinge, which may allow for a thinner chassis. The Z Flip 5 may gain a much larger cover screen, while both phones are speculated to finally achieve dust resistance, among other changes.
