Apple has unveiled the upgraded Mac Studio, featuring the new M2 Max and M2 Ultra chipsets. The new Ultra chip is claimed to be up to four times faster than older Intel-based computers, and the machine supports up to six Pro Display XDR displays. It offers up to 3x faster performance than the current generation Mac Studio with the M1 Ultra chip, making it one of Apple’s fastest and most advanced computers to date.

The new Mac Studio boasts up to 24 CPU cores and up to 76 GPU cores, delivering up to four times faster performance than the previous Intel-based iMac and six times faster than the latest Intel-based iMac. It also features a 40% faster Neural Engine and supports h.264, HEVC, and ProRes encoding and decoding.
Featuring the M2 Max chip, the Mac Studio delivers performance that is up to 50% faster than the previous generation and 4x faster than the latest Intel-based 27-inch iMac. It comes with a 12-core CPU, up to a 38-core GPU, and up to 96GB of unified memory with 400GB/s of memory bandwidth.
In terms of connectivity and displays, the new Mac Studio supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. It can be configured with up to 8TB of storage and offers up to 192GB of unified memory with 800GB/s memory bandwidth. Apple claims that graphics designers using After Effects will experience up to 50% faster rendering, developers using Xcode can build apps up to 25% faster, and 3D artists using Octane will achieve up to 3x faster rendering with the new M2 Ultra chips.
The Mac Studio supports up to six Pro Display XDR monitors and provides connectivity options such as 10GB Ethernet, HDMI, SDXD, four Thunderbolt 4 ports, and two USB-A ports. It also offers Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E, enabling lightning-fast download speeds that are twice as fast as the current generation powered by the M1 series of chips. Additionally, the machine allows users to connect up to 8K displays at 240Hz frame rates.
The Mac Studio starts at the same price as its predecessor, $1,999, and will retail for $1,799 in the US for education customers.
