The Apple VR headset will feature high-end displays

According to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, Apple’s rumoured mixed reality headset is expected to feature incredibly dense and bright displays. In a tweet, Young revealed that the headset would be equipped with two 1.41-inch Micro OLED screens, boasting an impressive 4,000 pixels per inch (ppi) and a brightness level exceeding 5,000 nits. He further mentioned that each eye would be able to perceive 4K resolution. These specifications, if accurate, would position Apple’s headset as a high-end product, surpassing the capabilities of devices like Meta’s Quest 2, which offers 773 ppi and 100 nits of brightness.

The unveiling of this technologically advanced headset might be just around the corner. Apple is widely anticipated to announce it, potentially named the “Reality Pro,” at the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference scheduled to commence on June 5th. In addition to the remarkable display features, the headset is rumoured to offer a dial for transitioning between virtual reality and augmented reality modes, as well as advanced hand tracking capabilities. It is also speculated that the headset may require an external battery pack for power.

The reported specifications of Apple’s headset are truly remarkable. For comparison, the PlayStation VR2 headset boasts displays with a resolution of 2000×2040 and a ppi of approximately 850. The maximum brightness of the latest HoloLens reaches 500 nits.
