Users can type questions and receive written responses from the chatbot, and the app also supports voice recognition for spoken queries. OpenAI’s ChatGPT app synchronizes text-based conversations across multiple devices. Subscribers to OpenAI’s ChatGPT Plus can access the more powerful GPT-4 language model through the app.
OpenAI intends to expand the availability of its app to more countries in the coming weeks and is working on releasing the Android version soon. Since its web release in late 2022, millions of users have experimented with ChatGPT and other AI bots, like Google’s Bard. These chatbots are built on large language models (LLMs) trained on vast amounts of internet data, enabling them to generate humanlike responses to user prompts. However, these models can also exhibit biases and create believable but fictional information.
Ironically, while Apple has just released the ChatGPT app, it is reportedly limiting internal usage of ChatGPT and other AI tools due to concerns about potential data leaks. The company wants to prevent the release of confidential information, according to a document cited by The Wall Street Journal. Apple joins other corporate giants like Samsung Electronics in banning employee use of such tools.
The release of the iOS app is expected to make ChatGPT more accessible to a wider audience than the web-based version. It also opens the door for user reviews and feedback via the App Store, enabling OpenAI to gather insights for continuous feature and safety improvements. Users of the premium version will benefit from faster response times and previews of new features. OpenAI remains committed to enhancing ChatGPT’s functionality and ensuring user safety based on user input and feedback.
