The Realme GT Neo 5 has been announced – it’s the fastest charging phone in the world, capable of charging from empty to full in 10 minutes. It is capable of charging up to 240W – remember, your iPhone or Samsung only charges up to a measly 27W or 45W, respectively. 240W is in line with the latest USB power spec announced by the USB-IF in 2021.

According to industry experts, we’re now starting to hit the point of diminishing returns with fast charging wattage this high on smartphones. According to the Chinese company, the Realme GT Neo 5 can fully charge its 4,600mAh battery in 9.5 minutes thanks to that 240W charging brick.
Realme is owned by BBK Electronics, the same company that owns Oppo and OnePlus. Oppo actually showed off a 240W fast-charging solution at Mobile World Congress 2022, which this new Realme phone is presumably using. 240W fast charging is yet to appear in a commercialized Oppo or OnePlus phone.
The Realme GT Neo 5 is only available in the Chinese market for now, but may make it to other markets if it hits certain sales targets. It will be sold in a couple of variants in China – the 240W version is the more expensive (around the $500 mark) and has 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, while the ‘slower’ 150W version (around $400) comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB.
Otherwise, the GT Neo 5 is a fairly standard Android device. It has a 6.74-inch 1240p 144Hz OLED display, and runs last year’s flagship Qualcomm processor, the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1. There are three rear cameras, but while the main sensor is 50 megapixels, the ultrawide is only 8 megapixels in resolution, and the macro sensor is limited to just 2 megapixels. It’s available in white, black, or purple.
