Xiaomi has been growing in prominence in the smartphone industry, and is now fully invested in the South African market. Xiaomi has officially launched its flagship Xiaomi 13 Pro – here is everything you need to know about it.

Its design is a slight upgrade over its predecessor. The Xiaomi 13 Pro features a curved-edge design on the display, resembling the Xiaomi 12 Pro but with less of a curve. We’re a big fan of Android flagships returning closer to a flat-screen design, with the slight curve still giving it a flagship aesthetic. It comes with the latest Corning Gorilla Glass Victus Plus, the highest level of protection that Corning offers.
The camera module on the back is now even larger than before. The back is also a ceramic slate now, and is available in three colours: white, black, and green.
It is also now the first time that the Xiaomi flagship has an IP rating, with the 13 Pro being rated as IP68 for dust and water resistance. This means they are highly resistant to dust and can withstand being submerged in water at a depth of up to 1.5 meters for a maximum of 30 minutes.
The Xiaomi 13 Pro has a nearly unchanged display when compared to the 12 Pro (which isn’t a bad thing). It features a 6.73-inch LTPO OLED display with 1440 x 3200-pixel resolution. In addition, this display features support for up 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and HLG. A major upgrade over the Xiaomi 12 Pro is that the Xiaomi 13 Pro features higher maximum and peak brightness levels. The display can go up to 1200 nits during normal usage, but the peak brightness boost can reach 1900 nits during HDR video playback.
Xiaomi is banking a lot on its improved camera performance on the 13 Pro. It has a 50MP IMX989 primary camera lens with 1-inch sensor size and ‘Hyper’ OIS, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle sensor with a 115-degree FoV, and a 50MP telephoto lens with 3.2x optical zoom.
When it comes to internals, the Xiaomi 13 Pro is powered by the recently announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. It is quite a big upgrade over the Gen 1 – the 4nm node process-based chipset offers up to 3.2GHz CPU speeds, hardware-accelerated ray-tracing, Wi-Fi 7, AI improvements, and a lot more.
The 13 Pro is equipped with a 4,820mAh battery and supports 120W fast wired charging. The standard Xiaomi 13 features a slightly smaller 4,500mAh cell and slightly slower 67W wired charging. It also supports 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging, making it easy to recharge the phone without the need for cables.
We don’t have the local pricing for the Xiaomi 13 Pro yet, but it is priced similarly to last year’s model. It starts from around $750 and goes up to $900 for the max RAM and storage model.
