HBO releases the first trailer for The Last of Us

While we got our first glimpse of HBO’s upcoming The Last of Us adaptation into a blockbuster series last month, we still haven’t had a proper look of the series’ atmosphere and feel. Until now. HBO has released the first trailer for its highly anticipated adaptation of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us. The 100 second long clip includes some of the most memorable moments from the 2013 acclaimed title of the same name.

The title has also been remastered for PlayStation 5, which was released last month.

For those that have never played the game(s) or have no idea what it is about – The Last of Us tells the story of Joel (portrayed by Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (portrayed by Bella Ramsay). The pair travel across a near-future version of the US that has been left devastated by a fungal infection, which turns victims into aggressive, zombie-like creatures. The trailer does a solid job of capturing the terrifying atmosphere of the game.

In the trailer we see the notorious clickers, the most deadly of infected enemies, plus some glimpses of the human factions in constant battle. It also looks like there will be story from the Left Behind DLC, which featured a unique character.

HBO clearly has a lot riding on the series. It was very expensive to make, and is drawing on one of the most-loved gaming franchises in history. It hopes to do well by those fans. While there’s no specific release date as yet, The Last of Us will premiere on HBO and HBO Max in early 2023.
