Google has launched a new, more affordable version of its Chromecast with Google TV streaming stick that offers high-definition instead of 4K ultra-high definition streaming. It costs $30, which is $20 less than the version that streams in 4K, which was launched a couple of years ago.

The new Chromecast offers everything that the $50 version does, other than 4K capabilities. So, for those that don’t yet have a 4K television, this device makes a lot more sense. Design-wise it is almost exactly the same and you would be hard-pressed to spot the difference. It comes with the Google TV operating system built-in, so users don’t have to mirror a smartphone, tablet, or another smart device to watch content.
The operating system offers over 10,000 apps, including popular streaming apps like Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, and Prime Video. In addition, Google includes a remote with an integrated microphone and a dedicated Google Assistant button for voice commands.
We don’t know when exactly it will be launched in South Africa, with Google simply saying regions outside of the US and Europe will get it “soon”.
