Starting from October 18th, The Sims 4 is going free-to-play and will be available to download at no cost for any new players. The game will be free on Mac, PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X. To be clear, only the base game will be free and available for download. There are twelve expansions for The Sims 4, and they will still have the same retail price. This move by EA is a ploy to try and squeeze as much money from the title as it wraps up the development cycle of its latest people sim. The Sims 4 was launched in 2014, with the original first coming to prominence in early 2000.
There is obviously a new game in the series coming soon. As for what this means for the game’s future, EA says developer Maxis is “more dedicated than ever to developing new and meaningful experiences for players, and will continue to develop and release packs, kits, and Sims delivery express drops into the foreseeable future.”
