Google’s Pixel 7, Pixel Watch launch date confirmed

Google has confirmed the launch event for its upcoming Pixel 7 flagship phone, Pixel Watch and new Nest devices. Invites have been sent out for its October 6th launch event. Google revealed these devices in teasers several months ago at its I/O event, but didn’t share any additional information about them. It seems they decided to reveal them early in order to combat leaks and rumours that were swirling around at the time.

Again, the tech giants try to take the shine off of other incoming events. Apple’s iPhone event will take place today, so announcing the Pixel 7 launch a day before is a strategy to get the tech community talking about something other the Apple’s upcoming devices.

Google itself is now revealing a little more information about the devices, with the Pixel 7’s product page saying that it’ll be powered by a next-gen chip called the Tensor G2.

The upcoming Pixel 7 isn’t going to look or feel very different to last year’s Pixel 6. The company has definitely come up with a design that is now synonymous with the Pixel – the first time its design language it purely Google. Before the Pixel 6 their flagship phones were pretty generic, barring some interesting colour options.

Probably more excitingly for many is the launch of the long-rumoured Pixel Watch. Its main competitors have been making wearables for years, so we’re not expecting anything revolutionary here. However, the Pixel Watch will likely give us a great idea of what the future of Android Wear will look like.

We have very little details about the Watch, though. We don’t even know anything about its internals. Did Google design its own wearable chip like they did for the phones? How much RAM will it have? That all remains to be seen, so tune in on October 6th!
