PlayStation 5 owners will be able to choose the new 1440p resolution on compatible TVs and monitors, which optimises the video output for those that don’t have 4K displays or monitors. If games support 1440p then native 1440p output will be supported, but otherwise 4K games will benefit from improve anti-aliasing by supersampling down to the 1440p output.
Gamers will be able to check if your HDMI-supported display supports 1440p in the screen and video section of the PS5 dashboard. At this time, variable refresh rate won’t yet be supported at 1440p, which will still only work in 4K or 1080p.
Gamelists are designed to help gamers to easily organise games. You can create gamelists from the main game library, and each list will support up to 100 games. There’s a limit of 15 gamelists in total, and disc, digital, and streaming games can all be added to the lists. Think of them as large folders that house the games you’d like to keep in various lists.
Sony is also expanding the social features on the PlayStation 5. There is a new request option to ask friends to start sharing their screens and new notifications when you join a party to let you know when you can join a friend’s ongoing game. Parties can now be sent stickers and voice messages, and you can easily compare the different between 3D audio and regular stereo before choosing your preferred setting.
The update is expected to reach all PS5 owners in the coming months.
