It wasn’t too long ago when smartphone manufacturers fought to cram in as cameras as possible on their devices, and now Xiaomi has upped the ante with the launch of its newest flagship.
The Mi 12S Ultra, as its known, arrives with a special feature; 1″ camera sensor, which while not unprecedented, is comparatively large for a smartphone. The device, which arrives armed with three cameras, is equipped with a 48-megapixel ultrawide, a 48-megapxel telephoto with a 5x optical zoom, and a 50-megapixel main camera which leverages the 1″ camera sensor exclusively.
Interestingly, the camera system is housed within a singular faux-lens which gives the device the semblance of a compact digital camera – which is fitting given that Xiaomi claims the system has been co-engineered with Leica. There’s also the fact that the device can capture video in Dolby Vision HDR.
Beyond its camera array, the Mi 12S supports IP68 dust and water resistance, wired fast charging, and a hefty 4860mAh battery, all-the-while running on a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 system-on-chip.
The Mi12s Ultra with 8GB RAM will launch first in China for a comparative price of $900 USD, while a version with 12GB of RAM will ship for $1050 USD.
