For a monitor that is about the come to market, we still know surprisingly little about it. The company has said that it’ll have a 16:9 4K panel and that the stand will support pivot, tilt, and rotation. But seeing that this is such a unique screen, which will quite literally tower over a PC desktop user, it is odd that we don’t yet know more information like its refresh rate or the price.

This is not the first monitor in Samsung’s Odyssey line, of course. The Odyssey G series was first announced in early 2020, with the G9 being the top of the line and launching in Q2 2020. It is a massive 49-inch widescreen monitor. It comes in at whopping 5,120 x 1,440 resolution with a 240Hz refresh rate and a 1ms pixel response time. It has a 1000R curvature, and it can handle DisplayHDR 1000 brightness as well as AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA G-Sync without breaking a sweat.
It also includes the G7 monitors, which offers two monitor sizes, one at 27-inches and another at 32-inches. These two displays have a more conventional 2,560 x 1,440 resolutions. It also has the same 240Hz refresh rates, 1ms pixel response times, 1000R curvature and AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA G-Sync. Samsung has been experimenting with different form factors in its monitors for years.
The Samsung Display business makes screens for all types of companies and devices, from smartphones to computer monitors to TVs. Their expertise allows them to do some wild and wacky things, like these curved monitors and folding phone screens. It will be interesting to see this evolve over the next couple of years as we expect to see more interesting concepts from the company.
