As is the case in recent years, we expect Apple to take to covers off its latest versions of the iPhone range in September 2022. There have been several leaks and rumours come to light regarding the upcoming iPhone 14, and importantly we there aren’t any delays expected for the refreshed model.
Leaks have uncovered that the iPhone 14 Pro models, specifically, will receive some big upgrades over its predecessor. Features such as a 48MP primary camera, punch hole and a pill-shaped cut-out in the front, and even the new A16 Bionic chipset, are likely coming to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models only.

However, the regular iPhone 14 models will receive last year’s A15 chipset. Reports suggest that this is due to the ongoing chip shortage, however, it is also very possible it is a cost cutting exercise so that the prices don’t increase with inflation rates at decade highs.
The iPhone range will drop the mini variant this year, as it only accounted for about 3 percent of total iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 sales. It will be replaced with a bigger iPhone 14 model rumoured to be at 6.7-inches. This means there will be four models – a 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch iPhone 14, and similarly sized iPhone 14 Pro models. The base models are expected to stick with the 12MP camera sensor and the same old design with a notch up front.
These significant downgrades of the iPhone 14 and 14 Max could make it a difficult sell for most people, when compared to the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max models. To be fair, that is the strategy from Apple here, trying to convince more people to buy the more expensive models, which have a much higher profit margin. The biggest new leak is that Apple is expecting to ship 120Hz fast refresh rate displays on the new devices. It is also claimed that all of the models will support ProMotion.
