Ring’s second-generation Alarm Security Kit launches in South Africa

Amazon-owned Ring has made entry into South Africa with the release of its various eponymous doorbells and smart cameras, and now the brand has announced that its second-generation Ring Alarm security kit is now available in South Africa.

The second-generation Ring Alarm functions as a base station for home security and can be integrated with existing Ring video doorbells and security cameras. The device kit ships with a keypad, contact sensor, motion detector, range extender, and, under Ring Protect Plus, works with assisted monitoring, cellular backup, and 30 days’ worth of video storage.

As is similar on most standard alarm units, Ring’s Alarm enables users to toggle between Disarmed, Home, and Away modes, with the ability to specific a sonic alarm, as well as notify preset contacts that there is a medical emergency or fire.

The kit is naturally compatible with various Alex-enabled devices – enabling Amazon enthusiasts the opportunity to expand their smart home. The Ring Alarm kit can accordingly be controlled through voice commands on an Echo speaker.

Under a Ring Protect subscription, the device can be set to record events that set off an alarm on a connected device.

The Ring Alarm security kit is set to retail for R3999 ZAR, while a Ring Protect Basic membership costs $30 USD per year, and the Plus variant $100 USD. The device kit is set to retail from Builders Warehouse, eBucks, FNB, Incredible Connection, Leroy Merlin, Takealot and Vodacom.
