Apple’s new mini Mac Pro could be called the Mac Studio

Rumours have swirled that Apple has been planning to both refresh some of its Mac Mini designs and concurrently release a smaller version of its modular Mac Pro, and now news suggests both will come together to form a new product in the guise of the Mac Studio.

The name is vaguely reminiscient of Microsoft’s Surface Studio, though there’s no indication at the moment that the company intends to couple its new product with a display (though, naturally, that may be sold seperately).

Similar rumours indicate that the Mac Studio could work with a new ‘Apple Studio Display’, though it isn’t clear as to whether that may instead represent an updated version of the Pro XDR display.

According to new reports, the Mac Studio will closely resemble the Mac Mini, though the device will be powered by an M1 Max processor. Notably, that may mean the Mac Studio will have access to an M1 processor before the Mac Pro sees a refresh to update its internal hardware to Apple silicon.

The Mac Studio will likely be unveiled at Apple’s Peek Performance event, which is slated for the 8th of March.
