Apple’s mixed reality headset allegedly won’t have much to do with a metaverse

Apple is normally quick to excise aging standards and ideas in favour of new ventures, though it seems that the Cupertino company instead plans to keep current trends intact with the eventual release of its mixed reality headset.

According to a report from Mark Gurman, Apple has reportedly axed the notion of integrating its own headset with either a global or properietary metaverse, and is instead planning to focus its offering on ‘communication, content viewing, and gaming’.

If that sounds more or less what we already use smartphones for, you’d probably be right. Rumours indicate that Apple sees the product as a significant venture which at retail may cost around $3000 USD.

Of course, Apple may simply be choosing not to create a proprietary metaverse concept for its product in a ‘wait-and-see’ approach, where the firm might opt to eventually collaborate with whichever driver successfully launches a metaverse concept that sticks with a worldwide audience – much the same way in which one could access Facebook or another social media network from an iPhone at present.
