Razer launches a MagSafe cooling fan for iPhone gamers

Mobile gamers have never had more options for their gaming needs. There are a slew of Android smartphones specifically focused on gaming, like the Nubia Red Magic 6, the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2, and the ROG Phone. However, often the iPhone is forgotten in the mobile gaming community discussions. No more. Razer has released a $60 Phone Cooler Chroma that promises to keep your handset cool, which works with MagSafe on the iPhone 12 or 13.

There is also a version of the Cooler Chroma that works with older iPhones with a clamp, which also works on Android devices. Being a Razer accessory, it naturally has the obligatory RGB lighting that is controlled through Bluetooth with the phone. It has a high-powered seven-blade fan that remains quiet at about 30dB. It doesn’t have its own battery, though, so you’ll need to plug in a USB-C charger whether or not you’re using MagSafe.

It still remains to be seen how much this will help your phone’s gaming performance. Gaming focused smartphones usually have some form of fan system inside the phone, helping to disperse and expend the hot air created from intensive gaming. However, blowing the back of the device with air to try and cool it down may not be as effective.

Another potential issue is its bulk – how comfortable can it be to play a high-end FPS title that needs precise controls with such a large fan stuck to the back, weighing down the hands of the player? The market for such a peripheral appears to be tiny, but we may be mistaken. It seems like serious mobile gamers are spoiled for choice with the high-end gaming smartphones (that are often relatively inexpensive compared to other phones), perhaps not needing this kind of cooling solution.
