While one might think that smart light bulbs are the most effective way into internet connected lighting, smart switches – whether wall mounted or in-line – can generally be more affordable. Now, Amazon has dipped its toes into the market with four new devices that work ‘exclusively’ with Alexa.
The reveal comes after Amazon’s bumper home announcements this year, where it even ventured so far as to unveil a home security camera that can perform routine patrols at home across designated routes thanks to a mounted drone unit.
Now, Amazon’s new roster of smart switches include a single–pole switch for $17.99, a single-pole dimmer for $19.99, and a three-way switch for $18.99 and three-way dimmer which will retail for $20.99.
The devices will not work with any other smart home system or digital assistant and require a live and neutral wire.
The devices mark part of Amazon’s bid to expand its Basics range, which intends to offer affordable smart electronics for home use. Notably, Amazon is the only major technology conglomerate competing in the arena – the likes of Google, Samsung, and naturally Apple have been content to let third parties develop products for their home ecosystems.
