Foxconn has three new electric vehicle prototypes at its HHTD21 event, including a sedan, an SUV and an electric bus. The company has been working on EVs for some time, especially the underlying technology, hardware, and software to enable them, and says its “no longer the new kid in town.”

The company aims to build its EV business quickly into a $36 billion business per year, although its plans aren’t apparent yet. These prototypes have been developed under its new Foxtron brand, built in conjunction with Taiwan’s Yulon Motor. The Taiwanese manufacturer has its own brand, called Luxgen, under which is manufactures Nissan and Mitsubishi vehicles for their local market.

The prototypes are all luxury products, with the sedan being the most luxurious of the lot. The SUV may be slightly more affordable when it launches. The sedan is called the Model E, the SUV is called the Model C and the transit bus is called the Model T.
All these vehicles are based on Foxconn’s open software and hardware platform that serve as development kits. Called MIH Consortium, the kit serves are reference designs that can be used by other EV brands to mass produce their own designs to their own specifications.

The Model T is slated to hit roads as soon as 2022, with a claimed range of 400km and able to cruise at 120km/h. The Model C SUV is expected to go on sale in Taiwan in 2023 with improved efficiency. It is expected to cost around $35,000 and accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds. Lastly, the Model E is a luxury performance sedan that has been designed in partnership with Pininfarina and doesn’t have a launch date yet. It will accelerate from 0-100km/h in 2.8 seconds with 750hp, but not pricing has been announced.
