Leaning into the leaks culture we usually see in the tech industry, Google started teasing the device months ago and already unveiled its design when it leaked. However, we are very interested in what is happening on the inside. We know that these devices will run on Google’s first system-on-a-chip designed internally, called Tensor. It is focused on advanced AI processing, and will drive some interesting features like speech recognition and live captions and translation without the need for an internet connection (all processing will happen on the device itself).

Significant improvements are also expected on the camera front. We don’t have a lot of details yet, but we know the Pixel 6’s new main camera will allow approximately 150 percent more light in than previous models. The Google Pixel 6 Pro will come with a 4x optical zoom lens as well as an additional telephoto option, according to prior reports. The Tensor SoC will also assist the cameras and improved processing capabilities, improving overall picture quality.
Google mentioned that the devices will have full day battery life, although they weren’t very clear about how many hours of screen-on time that translates to.
We will have to wait for the event to know how the Tensor SoC is structured. We don’t know how many cores it has or what its performance specs are, or have any details about the included GPU. We also don’t yet know how much RAM these devices will run on, or what improvements have been made to the screens.
Stay tuned – we will bring you all of the information after the launch event on October 19th.
