Though it may be somewhat of a small visual tweak, Apple’s premier wearable has – for the first time in generations – tweaked its design formula; the device now has slimmer bezels at 1.7mm with more screen size to boot.
For the first time, the Apple Watch’s display now extends to the near edge of its case; an advantage that Apple is capitalising on with a 70% brighter always-on display, along with a full-text keyboard that will support swiping gestures. Naturally, new watch faces have been designed to leverage the larger real estate.
Interestingly, the Series 7 isn’t more fragile given its larger display profile – Apple claims an IP6X rating for the device. Notably, another selling point for the wearable is that the smartwatch will now charge up to 33% faster.
While there’s little in the way of new sensors or any other significant hardware changes, the Series 7 will be set to benefit from improvements made to WatchOS 8 – including fall support, and an improved outdoor cycling mode.
The Series 7 will ship in five colours – namely, black, gold, blue, red, and a dark green. The Series 7 will retail for $399 USD and will be accompanied by the Series 3 (at $199 USD) and the Watch SE ($279 USD).
