As competition in the telecoms industry increases from smaller providers, the big players must react. Telkom is the latest large telecoms company to adjust its data prices downward to stay competitive, cutting the popular 1GB data bundle to R79. This price is slightly less than with rivals MTN and Vodacom. It is also introducing a new 1.5GB data bundle to increase options for customers.

The new 1.5GB bundle is prices aggressively at R89. At the moment these deals can only be accessed on Telkom’s *180# USSD menu, but from the 20th of September it will be available on all channels. Telkom added that the bundles include free night data for use after midnight and before 7am, equivalent to the bundle size.

These new prices aren’t available as recurring bundles at the moment, but that may change in the future. Telkom has also said that customers can transfer data to other users as per the current transfer rules in increments of 25MB, 50MB, 100MB, 250MB, 500MB and 1GB per day.
