Being one of the most anticipated games in recent memory can be both a blessing and a curse. Even though Cyberpunk 2077 has sold extremely well and millions of people have been playing the game, many have had a horrid experience. Previous generation consoles have been hardest hit with bugs, bad graphics and general bad performance. It has prompted Sony to remove the PlayStation 4 version of the game from its digital store and offered buyers a full refund, a completely unprecedented move.

The developer of the game, CD Projekt Red, has apologised for the bad performance on previous generation consoles, saying they did now realise they did not spend the appropriate amount of time to make sure it runs properly on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.

Just before the launch of the game CD Projekt Red’s stock price was at an all-time high of 443 PLN and immediately dropped at launch. After this announcement from Sony it dropped another 15 percent. At the time of writing the stock price is at 264 PLN, more than 40 percent down from the peak.
“SIE (Sony Interactive Entertainment) strives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, therefore we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store. SIE will also be removing Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store until further notice,” Sony said in the announcement.
“Once we have confirmed that you purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store, we will begin processing your refund. Please note that completion of the refund may vary based on your payment method and financial institution.”
Shortly afterwards CD Projekt Red also made a statement confirming it made the agreement with Sony. “The decision was undertaken following our discussion with SIE regarding a full refund for all gamers who had purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store and want a refund at this time,” it said.
The plan is to rectify the issues with a software patch as soon as possible, but customers that don’t want to wait are free to request the refund.
It is a massive blow to CD Projekt Red, who have been one of the most respected gaming developers until now thanks to the extremely successful and well-reviewed The Witcher series.
