The Google Home and the Google Home Mini is now officially the only remaining devices of the family. The Google Home Max is the original large version of the range of smart speakers, and Google has officially retired it after the last remaining units were sold online.

Google is no longer manufacturing the Home Max, as its largest, most expensive version of the smart speaker didn’t sell as intended. The Google Home Mini has proved extremely successful for the Mountain View company, with the first Google Home also holding its own in sales figures. The Home Max will still be supported by Google for the foreseeable future.
It was launched back in 2017 for $399 – compare that to $49 for the Home Mini – and offers dual 4.5-inch high-excursion woofers and two custom tweeters. Unfortunately, the improved volume wasn’t enough to entice consumers to buy it – the smaller Home smart speakers have improved sound quality which makes it a much more attractive proposition.
You can now get two of the rebranded Nets Audio speakers (formerly Google Home) for about the same price as the Home Max, which arguably has better sound quality. In fact, Google is encouraging customers to rather take this option as it is a good start in creating your smart home.
“We’ve sold out of Google Home Max and will no longer be manufacturing the device. With the launch of Nest Audio, we’re offering a range of great home audio solutions, particularly with two Nest Audios paired for stereo sound,” Google said in a statement.
“Existing Google Home Max users shouldn’t worry as they won’t see any change in their service. We’ll continue to offer software updates and security fixes to Google Home Max devices. We’re committed to delivering great sound and whole home audio features across all of our Assistant-enabled products.”
