The upcoming holidays are a festive, celebratory time around the world. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case for everyone. Add the impact, financial or health wise, of the coronavirus pandemic and matters look even worse for many. Facebook Drives is being added to the Community Help section that makes it easier for you and your friends to collect food, clothes and other vital goods for those in need.

It effectively works like a crowdfunding campaign – there’s a progress bar right at the top which shows how close that Drive is to completing the goal. You also have the ability to contact the organiser of the Drive via Messenger. At the top of the Community Help page there will be an icon that allows you to request or offer assistance. A Drive is then created, and contributing to it is very easy through the additional icon.
The feature is currently being rolled out in the United States, planned to be available throughout the entire country in a matter of weeks. There is no indication from Facebook that this feature is planned for other markets in the short term, but it is widely expected to launch around the world in 2021.
Facebook Drives is planning to make it possible to share posts directly in your main Facebook feed that invites and allows people to donate to a Drive or other non-profit charity, with 100 percent of the donated funds going to the specific campaign. These payments will all be facilitated through Facebook Pay, although not much else is known at this point.
