Fresh from ending its Talking Points rewards programme in July this year – which specifically rewarded prepaid customers for purchases – Vodacom has now unveiled a newly revamped VodaBucks rewards scheme which aims to reward both contract and prepaid subscribers.
VodaBucks will see customers earn one reward point (meaning, one VodaBuck) per every ten Rand spent with Vodacom. Accordingly, subscribers will be able to earn additional VodaBucks by taking eligible action within the My Vodacom app, settling their Vodacom bill (which includes settling add-on data and voice bundles), and purchasing bundles through VodaPay.
In turn, users can redeem their VodaBucks for a wide variety of goods and services – and, surprisingly, this isn’t limited for purchasing products underneath the Vodacom stable. Notably, this includes the ability to purchase the likes of food, fashion, and appliances as well as electronics, online courses, and fitness classes.
VodaBucks can be used for a part-purchase, where if a customer doesn’t have a sufficient VodaBucks balance, they can ‘top up’ their payment using a credit card. VodaBucks themselves are only valid for 12 months, however, before they ultimately expire.
Interested users can subscribe to the programme through the My Vodacom App,, or by dialing *133# on USSD.
The rewards programme is one of many that has recently hit South African shores. In a bid to change customer behavior and drive retention, many major outlets have introduced loyalty schemes in a bid to craft attractive offers for their clients.
While mainstays such as FNB’s eBucks, Pick ‘n Pay’s Smart Shopper points and Discovery Miles (formerly Vitality points) have been well received, we’ll have to wait to find out whether consumers will embrace VodaBucks as readily.
