Whether it be in smartphone displays, laptops or computer monitors, everyone is pushing refresh rates as much as possible. While it adds smoothness to smartphone displays, gamers probably see the most upside with fast refresh monitors. To this end, the gaming arm of Dell Computers, Alienware is pushing the envelope.

Alienware has now applied its new 360Hz refresh rate technology to its greatest range of gaming laptops. The Alienware Area-51m R2 and m17 R3 will both support 360Hz FHD panels, bringing that esports vibe to mobile players. The Area-51m R2 uses 10th Gen Intel Core i9 CPUs with NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPUs, while the m17 R3 is powered by Intel’s 10th Gen Core H and HK series.
So, what’s so special about a high refresh rate panel? Mostly, accuracy. That refresh rate all but ensures buttery-smooth rendering which cuts down on image and input latency. For fans of first-person shooters, it means a potential for a better kill ratio. And fighting game aficionados can get those complicated combos in a bit faster than the competition.
While there are several standalone monitors that offers the same refresh rates, this is the first laptop to garner the technology. We wouldn’t expect to notice much difference in a 360Hz display versus the current high-end standard of 240Hz, but will confirm once we lay our eyes on it.
We’re not sure about other changes to the internals yet, which will become clear when Alienware gives us the prices of the new laptops.
