Apple has achieved a new zenith – reaching over an estimated 85.8 million iPhone owners aged 13 and older in the United States.
It’s a good day to be Tim Cook; according to a new report courtesy of comScore, Apple has officially reached a record figure of 85.8 million iPhone owners aged 13 and older in the United States.
The news, based on a three-month average ending in December 2016, means that Apple has more iPhone users in the US than in any point in history.

comScore’s report reveals that Apple’s iPhone 6 and 6s series remain Apple’s most popular smartphones within the country – accounting for an estimated 48.4% of the total installed base. A smaller 17.8% of the user base still use an iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, or iPhone 5c, while 15% of the total user base enjoys the company’s newer iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.
comScore’s results could be on the conservative side of the spectrum, however – Consumer Intelligence Research Partners claims that the iPhone’s installed base sits somewhere at 132 million units in the US as of December 2016.
While iOS adoption is second to Android in the US – given the wider variety of Android smartphones on the market – the iPhone remains the most popular smartphone in both the US and the world, according to research firms such as Kantar Worldpanel.
The news corroborates an earlier report by Kantar Worldpanel, which predicts that iOS and Android will go it alone in pursuit of world domination, while smaller platforms such as Windows Phone can effectively be written off.
