A new leak has potentially revealed the refurbished Galaxy Note 7 model that Samsung hopes to sell in emerging markets such as Vietnam.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Samsung was gearing up to sell refurbished Galaxy Note 7 devices in emerging markets such as Vietnam and in Indonesia. Though the company has flip-flopped on the issue, it recently confirmed its plans to offer rental or refurbished Note 7 devices to consumers in specific territories.
Thanks to a new leak, we now have some indication of what Samsung’s refurbished Note series could look like – and in good news, it would appear that the handset is largely the same as the model that shipped last year.

We say ‘largely the same’ as this variant should prove to be far less explosive than its predecessor; the leaked devices accommodate a smaller 3,200mAh battery down from the larger 3,500mAh units that proved faulty last year.
In its official autopsy, Samsung revealed that the fault behind the Note 7’s temperamental tendencies was, in fact, a poor battery design that was compounded by a similarly faulty installation found in replacement units.
The refurbished handset is apparently dubbed the Galaxy Note 7R, and sports a revised model number of SM-N935 – for parity, the original device used the model number SM-N930. The device will further include Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box.
The move to refurbish the handset is motivated by two factors; the most obvious being an attempt to recoup the cost of recalling the device, while the second is to ensure that the disposal of faulty Note 7 devices is performed in an environmentally friendly fashion.
