Samsung is reportedly seeking a return to the little league with the development of a Samsung Galaxy S8 Mini to sit next to the standard and S8+ variant.
Remember the days when it was all the rage for Android manufacturers to produce a blockbuster phone and then saddle it next to a smaller, dumbed-down Mini variant? Save for that latter premise, we could well see a return to the status quo as new reports indicate that Samsung is preparing a Galaxy S8 Mini.
The S8 Mini, which would apparently sit next to the standard Galaxy S8 and the larger Galaxy S8 +, would apparently arrive in a 5.3″ form factor without losing a step over its larger siblings. Given that the premiere Galaxy S8 duo would arrive in early May, the Galaxy S8 Mini might well be released by Samsung in the following weeks or in early June.

The Mini variant would reportedly still ship with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset – the first true outing of which is aboard the Galaxy S8 and S8+ – and would retain 4GB of RAM and the same 12-megapixel camera that is found on the standard Galaxy S8 variants.
Presently, there’s little word as to whether the Galaxy S8 Mini could launch with a reduced price to combat rivals such as the iPhone SE. Given that the standard S8 is set to retail for R15499 ZAR and the larger S8+ will retail for R17499 ZAR, this would seem to be an unlikely reality.
If anything, the device could amount to be a delayed sizing alternative to the mainstream Galaxy S8 duo, though we’ll have to wait to see what other rumours emerge in the coming weeks.
